The uptake of Tc-99m-uptake of Tc-99m-methylene diphosphonate (MDP) on bone scintigraphy can be seen at sites other than bone in a varying number of benign and malignant conditions. Extraosseous metastatic calcifications can occur in ovarian papillary serous adenocarcinoma (PSAC). These extraosseous calcifications show Tc-99m-MDP uptake.

Article Synopsis
  • - The peritoneal cancer index helps evaluate the extent of peritoneal disease before surgery.
  • - Current imaging methods like 18 F-FDG PET/CT are better than CT but still underestimate the disease because of high background activity in the body.
  • - A new imaging technique using 68 Ga-trivehexin targets cancer integrins, showing less background activity and potentially providing a more accurate assessment of advanced epithelial ovarian cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • Metastases to the thyroid gland from other cancers are very uncommon, with the most frequent sources being kidney, colorectal, lung, and breast cancers.
  • Rarely, laryngeal cancer can also spread to the thyroid gland, but this is not typical.
  • Thyroid metastases usually indicate a poor prognosis and need to be distinguished from tumors that start in the thyroid itself; the text describes a case identified through advanced imaging techniques.
