A study was undertaken to evaluate both a pre-existing method and a newly proposed approach for the estimation of nuclear genome sizes in arthropods. First, concerns regarding the reliability of the well-established method of flow cytometry relating to impacts of rearing conditions on genome size estimates were examined. Contrary to previous reports, a more carefully controlled test found negligible environmental effects on genome size estimates in the fly Drosophila melanogaster.

These included fatty acid binding protein, phospholipid binding protein, phospholipid synthesis protein, transporter cofactors, seladin-1, Abeta precursor protein (APP), vimentin, and low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein. ABCA2 was highly expressed in neuroblastoma cells and colocalized with Abeta and APP.

Goldfish have an annual reproductive cycle, characterized by seasonal fluctuations in the circulating levels of the reproductive hormones, including 17beta-estradiol (E2). The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of E2 on basal and GnRH-induced GtH subunit (alpha, FSH-beta and LH-beta) gene expression in the goldfish pituitary.

In contrast to the hypothalamus and pituitary, the mechanism of melatonin action at the level of the ovary is still poorly understood. In the present study, we investigated the gene expression of the two different forms of melatonin receptors in human granulosa-luteal cells, using RT-PCR.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOvarian surface epithelium (OSE) is the tissue of origin for the majority of ovarian cancers. The mechanism underlying the neoplastic transformation of OSE to ovarian cancer is poorly understood. Activin, a member of the transforming growth factor-beta superfamily, has been shown to increase cell proliferation in ovarian cancer cells.
