Background: Recent reforms to the training grades have provoked debate about both quality and quantity of training. The bulk of previous research into this area has been qualitative, and little is known about the quantity of training opportunities. Deliberate self-harm as a cause of persistent discharge from arthroscopic portals.

Persistent discharge and bleeding from arthroscopy portals are rare complications. We report three cases which occurred as a result of deliberate self-harm. To our knowledge the occurrence of self-inflicted injury following arthroscopy has not been reported.

Chronic contained rupture of an aortic aneurysm mimicking infective spondylitis.

Chronic contained rupture of an abdominal aortic aneurysm is rare. These aneurysms are small and affected patients are usually normotensive. The resultant pseudoaneurysmal sac may cause extensive vertebral erosion.

Silicone granulomatous reactions after first metatarsophalangeal hemiarthroplasty.

We reviewed 55 patients (78 feet) who had undergone silicone hemiarthroplasty of the first metatarsophalangeal joint for hallux valgus (40) or hallux rigidus (38). At a mean period of 4.5 years (1 to 11), 56 feet had radiological evidence suggestive of silicone granulomatous disease.
