Background: Control of glycaemic levels as well as cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF) is essential to prevent the onset of complications associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Objective: To obtain adapted versions for the Spanish population of a specific version of the Revised Illness Perception Questionnaire Revised (IPQ-R(e)) and the Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire (BIPQ), conceptually and linguistically equivalent to the original questionnaires.
Design: Cultural adaptation of questionnaires: linguistic validation.
Setting: Five primary care centres and a tertiary hospital.
