In India, a slow rise in cases of mucormycosis has been observed as the country has seen a rising number of diabetes mellitus cases in the recent decades. This apart, an enormous increase in case numbers was seen in association with COVID-19 infections in the Asian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, markedly in India.
