The effect of a team-based service model on treatment processes and outcomes and healthcare usage among people with type 2 diabetes in North Karelia, Finland.

Aims: In North Karelia, Finland, a team-based service model was implemented in primary healthcare (PHC) during 2020. In this model, a healthcare customer contacts a nurse who initiates the service process immediately, possibly consulting or directing customers to other professionals. The effect of this new service model among patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) was assessed.

Long-Term Health Economic Evaluation of Intermittently Scanned Glucose Monitoring Compared with Self-Monitoring Blood Glucose in a Real-World Setting in Finnish Adult Individuals with Type 1 Diabetes.

There has been an evolving trend in the use of intermittently scanned continuous glucose monitoring (isCGM) among individuals with type 1 diabetes. Although isCGM is proven to be beneficial in the treatment of individuals with type 1 diabetes, its use leads to increasing device costs. This study aimed to investigate the long-term cost-effectiveness of isCGM.

System's Crisis Resilience as a Societal Crisis: Knowledge Structure and Gaze of the Finnish Health Care System.

The crisis resilience of vital social systems is currently the target of constant development efforts in Finland, as their drifting into crisis would weaken societies' functional abilities, safety, and security. This is also the case regarding the Finnish health care system. In an attempt to move beyond existing frameworks of crisis imagination, this article takes an unconventional stance by elucidating endogenous crisis dynamics present in the Finnish health care system.

Clinical significance of CYP11B2 immunostaining in unilateral primary aldosteronism.

Objective: The associations between adrenal histopathology, lateralization studies, and surgical outcomes in primary aldosteronism remain poorly characterized. We examined the value of immunohistochemical analysis of CYP11B2 for evaluation of adrenalectomy outcomes after anatomical versus functional subtyping.

Design: A retrospective multicenter study of 277 patients operated for primary aldosteronism who had an adrenalectomy sample available in the Finnish biobanks from 1 January 2000 to 31 December 2019.

Pandemic preparedness and response regulations in Finland: Experiences and implications for post-COVID-19 reforms.

The COVID-19 pandemic has plagued health systems in an unprecedented way and challenged the traditional ways to respond to epidemics. It has also revealed several vulnerabilities in countries' health systems and preparedness. In this paper we take the Finnish health system as an example to analyse how pre-COVID-19 preparedness plans, regulations, and health system governance were challenged by the pandemic and what lessons can be learned for the future.
