A recommendation from a series of Aotearoa New Zealand (NZ) ear and hearing health hui was to summarise literature in ear, hearing, and vestibular health to inform future strategic directions. We aimed to conduct a scoping review of ear, hearing, and vestibular health literature in NZ over the past 50 years, with a particular focus on equity research in underserved communities. The review was undertaken using PRISMA guidelines and managed using Covidence.

Dizziness following mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), or concussion, is common and can encompass multiple sensations reflecting diverse aetiologies. This exploratory study investigated the types of dizzy sensations experienced, their evolution, and relationship with other post-concussion symptoms. Thirty New Zealanders (24 female) aged 49 ± 16 years who experienced dizziness or imbalance following their injury completed the Dizziness Handicap Inventory, Visual Vertigo Analogue Scale, and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale.

Long-term exposure to hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] has been linked to lung cancer, and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) is a well-known inflammatory factor. However, the role and mechanism of COX-2 in Cr(VI)-induced carcinogenesis are not clear yet. Importance: Hurricanes are associated with a wide range of adverse health effects in the general population and are increasing in frequency and severity due to global climate change. Due to prior military exposures and distinct sociodemographic characteristics, US veterans may be more vulnerable than the general population to negative health effects of hurricanes.

Objective: To evaluate whether acute care mental health visits among US veterans were associated with exposure to hurricanes.
