Clinical Outcomes of Chemo-Immunotherapy for Extensive Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer: A Real-World Single Centre Study in Portugal.

Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive type of lung cancer. Recent studies have provided a new hope by adding atezolizumab to the standard treatment of extensive disease SCLC (E-SCLC). The aim of our study was to evaluate the real-life performance of atezolizumab plus chemotherapy in extensive stage SCLC in a Portuguese setting.

Allergy to ustekinumab: Validating skin tests for diagnostic and therapeutic decision-making.

Monoclonal antibodies have gained prominence in treating cancer and inflammatory diseases, but their increased use is linked to rising hypersensitivity reactions. Our case report focuses on a 32-year-old female with Crohn's disease treated initially with adalimumab and later with ustekinumab. Despite ustekinumab's generally safe profile, the patient developed increasingly severe mucocutaneous reactions.

Effective desensitization in an IgE-mediated hypersensitivity reaction to tocilizumab in neuromyelitis optica.

Neuromyelitis optica is a rare, inflammatory autoimmune disease of the central nervous system. Tocilizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody, which targets the inhibition of the interleukin-6 receptor, a mediator with an important role in the pathophysiological mechanism of neuromyelitis optica. Hypersensitivity reactions to tocilizumab are rare, but similar to other biological drugs can elicit a hypersensitivity reaction.

Awareness of risk when prescribing and taking combined hormonal contraceptives (CHCs): a qualitative study with women and health professionals in three European countries.

Objectives: To explore the experiences of women and health professionals when communicating about combined hormonal contraceptives (CHCs), with a focus on venous thromboembolism (VTE). We also focused on information sources consulted by women for their decision-making process regarding contraceptives.

Design: Qualitative semistructured face-to-face interviews were conducted with 24 women and 16 health professionals.

Estimating the diagnostic performance of serological assays for emerging pathogens using a Bayesian approach: Myxoma virus in the Iberian hare (Lepus granatensis).

Validated diagnostic tools are essential when conducting serological surveys. However, reliable tests are scarce and hard to attain for emerging pathogens due to the lack of reference tests or samples. Recently, a recombinant myxoma virus (MYXV), named ha-MYXV, raised alarm in the Iberian Peninsula for its impact on Iberian hare (Lepus granatensis) populations and its detection in wild (Oryctolagus cuniculus) and domestic rabbits.
