Pediatric Headache Attributed to Infection.

Pediatric headaches attributed to infection are typically related to non-life threatening illnesses such as upper respiratory tract infections and rhinosinusitis. Although less common, secondary headaches related to life threatening infections are most frequently associated with meningitis. This review provides an overview of the International Classification of Headache Disorders third edition (ICHD-3) categories of infections contributing to secondary headache, describes clinical presentation, and presents a focused review on relevant diagnoses associated with this headache type.

Advanced bioinformatic analysis and pathway prediction of NSCLC cells upon cisplatin resistance.

This study aims to identify pathway involvement in the development of cisplatin (cis-diamminedichloroplatinum (II); CDDP) resistance in A549 lung cancer (LC) cells by utilizing advanced bioinformatics software. We developed CDDP-resistant A549 (A549/DDP) cells through prolonged incubation with the drug and performed RNA-seq on RNA extracts to determine differential mRNA and miRNA expression between A549/DDP and A549 cells. We analyzed the gene dysregulation with Ingenuity Pathway Analysis (IPA; QIAGEN) software.

Solid Cherenkov detector for studying nucleosynthesis in inertial confinement fusion.

Measuring gamma rays emitted from nuclear reactions gives insight into their nuclear structure. Notably, there are several nuclear reactions that produce gamma rays at ∼1 MeV-3 MeV energies such as T(He, γ)Li, He(He, γ)Be, and C(p, γ)N, which may solve questions lingering about big-bang nucleosynthesis and stellar nucleosynthesis. To observe 1 MeV-3 MeV gamma rays in an inertial confinement fusion system, a new style of the Cherenkov detector was developed using aerogel and fused silica as a Cherenkov medium.

Dynamic gut microbiome changes following regional intestinal lymphatic obstruction in primates.

The pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has been linked with lymphostasis, but whether and how lymphatic obstruction might disturb the intestinal microbiome in the setting of Crohn's Disease (CD) is currently unknown. We employed a new model of CD in African Green monkeys, termed 'ATLAS' (African green monkey truncation of lymphatics with obstruction and sclerosis), to evaluate how gut lymphatic obstruction alters the intestinal microbiome at 7, 21 and 61 days. Remarkable changes in several microbial sub- groupings within the gut microbiome were observed at 7 days post-ATLAS compared to controls including increased abundance of Prevotellaceae and Bacteroidetes-Prevotella-Porphyromonas (BPP), which may contribute to disease activity in this model of gut injury.

Psychosocial and Demographic Characteristics of Children and Adolescents With Headache Presenting for Treatment in a Headache Infusion Center.

Background: Approximately 10% of pediatric patients have recurrent headaches, with migraine being the most common headache type. If untreated, migraine may progress to status migrainosus, a debilitating condition of prolonged duration, high pain severity, and significant disability. There is high variability in the treatment of status migrainosus including medications used and treatment setting, which may occur in the emergency room, as an inpatient admission, or, less often, in an outpatient infusion center.
