Purpose: Plasma levels of pancreatic and intestinal enzymes were measured after pancreatic duct ligation (PDL) to monitor pancreatic exocrine insufficiency (PEI) in a model using young pigs.
Material/methods: Five, 6 week-old pigs (10.9±0.
Gut enzymes in the small intestine are exposed to extremely low electrical currents (ELEC) generated by the smooth muscle. In the present study, the in vitro tests were undertaken to evaluate the effect of these electric currents on the activity of the proteolytic pancreatic digestive enzymes. A simulator generating the typical electrical activity of pig gut was used for these studies.

When stimulated with these electrical currents, the bacteria Pediococcus pentosaceus 16:1 produced groups of peptidoglycan hydrolases that differed from those produced by the unstimulated (control) bacteria. The autolysins synthesized by the P.

Nine neonatal Friesian calves (five controls and four treated intraduodenally with FK480, a CCK-A receptor antagonist) were surgically fitted with a pancreatic duct catheter and a duodenal cannula before the first colostrum feeding. Collections of pancreatic juice and duodenal luminal pressure recordings were started early after recovery from anaesthesia and continued for 6 days.

The paper, which is a continuation of the previous one, describes a six-channel, PC-dedicated implanted telemetry system, including the schematic drawings, and explanation of all the differences between a single channel and multichannel system approach. The scheme of an additional multichannel analog output, that makes a pure analog recording possible, even without the PC connection, is also presented. Specific methods for both parallel (Centronics) and serial (RS232C) port interfacing are demonstrated and the controlling software principles are discussed.
