Most patients with Parkinson's disease experience motor fluctuations or 'off' periods, which impact on their daily activities, increase their disability and diminish their quality of life. They suffer from these fluctuations despite multiple adjustments to the schedules, doses and intake of medication. In this context, on-demand or rescue treatments are necessary to attempt to improve 'off' periods, with drugs that have the pharmacokinetic advantage of a much faster onset of action because their routes of administration are not oral.
