The liverwort Arnellia fennica has a circumarctic distribution with disjunct and scarce localities in the Alps, Carpathians, and Pyrenees. Within the Carpathians, it is only known from the Tatra Mountains (in Poland), where so far only four occurrences have been documented in the forest belt of the limestone part of the Western Tatras. The species is considered a tertiary relict, which owes its survival during the last glaciation period to low-lying locations in areas not covered by ice.

The aging process significantly impacts lung physiology and is a major risk factor for chronic respiratory diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), asthma, and non-IPF interstitial lung fibrosis. This narrative clinical review explores the molecular and biochemical hallmarks of aging, such as oxidative stress, telomere attrition, genomic instability, epigenetic modifications, proteostasis loss, and impaired macroautophagy, and their roles in lung senescence. Central to this process are senescent cells, which, through the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP), contribute to chronic inflammation and tissue dysfunction.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is one of the most common diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, which in 20% of cases can turn into a severe form, with mortality reaching up to 30%. One of the cornerstones of AP treatment is early nutritional treatment. Feeding intolerance (FI) occurs in up to 25% of patients with AP and is associated with a more severe disease course and poorer clinical outcome.
