In utero exposure to Azathioprine in autoimmune disease. Where do we stand?

Azathioprine (AZA), an oral immunosuppressant, is safe during pregnancy. Some reports suggested different impairments in the offspring of mothers with autoimmune diseases (AI) exposed in utero to AZA. These observations are available from retrospective studies or case reports.

Flickering in Information Spreading Precedes Critical Transitions in Financial Markets.

As many complex dynamical systems, financial markets exhibit sudden changes or tipping points that can turn into systemic risk. This paper aims at building and validating a new class of early warning signals of critical transitions. We base our analysis on information spreading patterns in dynamic temporal networks, where nodes are connected by short-term causality.

Cardiolipin packing ability studied by grazing incidence X-ray diffraction.

We report a grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXD) study of pure and mixed Langmuir monolayers of tetramyristoyl cardiolipin (TMCL) and dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) at 22 degrees C. The mixing behavior of the two components was investigated at two different surface pressures, 4 and 25mNm(-1). Cardiolipins are found to be in a liquid-condensed (LC) phase at 4mNm(-1) whereas the DPPC molecules appear disordered.

Influence of the chain length of ubiquinones on their interaction with DPPC in mixed monolayers.

The thermodynamic behavior of representative short (UQ2), middle (UQ4 and UQ6) and long-chain (UQ10) ubiquinones (UQ) mixed with dipalmitoyl-phosphatidylcholine (DPPC) was studied in monolayers at the air-water interface. The influence of isoprenoid chain-length of UQ on miscibility of both lipids was investigated by analysis of surface pressure-area isotherms and using fluorescence microscopy. Analysis of excess areas (A(ex)) and free energies of mixing (DeltaGm), calculated from compression isotherms in the full range of ubiquinones concentrations, has given evidences for UQ-rich constant-size (UQ6, UQ10) or less growth limited (UQ2, UQ4) microdomains formation within mixed films.
