An increasing number of people are surviving cancer in Switzerland : 163,450 people were still alive in 2006 after a cancer diagnosis less than ten years prior, compared to 210,350 in 2016. However, most have to cope with debilitating emotional and physical aftereffects. A new 12-week rehabilitation program aims to restore patients' abilities.

Objectives: While oral anticancer treatment has increased the convenience for patients with no risk of venous access complications compared to intravenous drug administration, a high level of compliance cannot always be assumed. The aim of the present report was to evaluate real-life drug adherence in a prospective cohort analysis of patients with gastrointestinal or breast cancer treated with capecitabine-based chemotherapy.

Methods: Twenty-nine Swiss oncologists recruited patients receiving capecitabine, either as monotherapy or in combination with other chemotherapeutic agents, in a prospective fashion.

A 46-year-old woman who had had a right mastectomy for breast carcinoma a month before underwent bone scintigraphy. The examination revealed multiple pelvic, vertebral and sternal hot spots suggestive of bone metastases. Standard X-rays and CT confirmed the presence of bony lesions but they were not typical of bone metastases.
