The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic has escalated clinical needs while interrupting regular processes and straining resources. Striving to deliver optimal care to infected patients with respiratory failure, Rush University Medical Center in Chicago created a multidisciplinary team to provide manual prone positioning safely and efficiently. Team members' experiences, which they shared through a survey, help to illustrate the advantages of a multidisciplinary approach and suggest opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of such a team.

Background: Preventable opioid-induced respiratory depression is a patient safety risk in hospitals. Sedation and respiratory assessment and monitoring guidelines and tools are available to improve practice.
One organization assessed the association between increased caregiver hours per patient-day and a reduction in inpatient falls by adding a new role for a patient safety officer. Although the role was statistically significant in reducing patient falls by 50% on the intervention unit, fall reductions were not statistically significant when compared with the control unit.
