In this work we present an algorithm based on the simulated annealing (SA) method for electron beam spectrum reconstruction from central axis PDD data. We use a simulated beam in order to assess the accuracy of the method, and compare it with others usually employed. We found that our modified SA algorithm produced excellent reconstructed PDDs and beam profiles and improved reconstructed spectra.

Statistical models may be useful in order to evaluate antiarrhythmic treatment and to distinguish between drug efficacy and spontaneous variability of premature ventricular depolarizations. Analysis of variance and linear regression analysis have been both proposed for documenting antiarrhythmic efficacy. Holter/exercise approach has been designed as noninvasive method of drug testing.

A randomized double-blind cross-over trial was carried out in 20 patients suffering from ventricular ectopic contractions (VECs), in order to evaluate the effectiveness of a new antiarrhythmic drug, Propafenone (P), versus Lorajmine (L). The patients were given 900 mg/day P and 600 mg/day L in three divided doses for 3 days. Every patient was evaluated with four 24-hour ambulatory ECGs, the first at the beginning of the trial, the second after the administration of the first drug, the third after the administration of the second drug and the last after wash-out.

Three normal individuals and 17 cardiac patients with frequent VPBs were given mexiletine orally for 5 days (400-1000 mg daily in two to five doses). Each patient was evaluated by means of 24-hour Holter monitoring before treatment, on the fifth day and 4 days after the drug was discontinued. In 15 patients mexiletine serum levels were measured before and 2 hours after the first dose given in the morning.
