Article Synopsis
  • PRRSV is a highly impactful virus that causes significant economic losses in the pig industry, totaling around $664 million annually, and current vaccines are not very effective.
  • The study focuses on developing porcine single-chain antibodies (pscFvs) that specifically target the NSP1β protein of PRRSV, which is essential for virus replication and immune evasion.
  • These pscFvs are modified to act as cell-penetrating transbodies that can potentially inhibit PRRSV replication in infected cells, presenting a promising approach for treatment and prevention of the virus, although further research is needed to fully understand their antiviral mechanisms.

Allergen specific immunotherapy (AIT) can modulate the allergic response causing a long-term symptom subsidence/abolishment which leads to reduced drug use and prevention of new sensitization. AIT of house dust mite allergy (HDM) using the mite crude extract (CE) as the therapeutic agent is not only less effective than the AIT for many other allergens, but also frequently causes adverse effects during the treatment course. In this study, mouse model of Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Dp) allergy was invented for testing therapeutic efficacies of intranasally administered liposome (L) encapsulated vaccines made of single Dp major allergens (L-Der p 1, L-Der p 2), combined allergens (L-Der p 1 and Der p 2), and crude Dp extract (L-CE).

Objective: To investigate the associations between demographic variables and sick leave use.

Methods: We analyzed sick leave use among civil servants at a federal agency (FA) from 2004 to 2012 by demographic and FA-specific variables. We used a mixed methods approach and type III analysis to build a descriptive model of sick leave proportions and demographic variables.

Objective: This study evaluates the predictability in temporal absences trends due to all causes (total absenteeism) among employees at a federal agency. The objective is to determine how leave trends vary within the year, and determine whether trends are predictable.

Methods: Ten years of absenteeism data from an attendance system were analyzed for rates of total absence.
