The pH dependence of the free energy level of the flash-induced primary charge pair PI was determined by a combination of the results from the indirect charge recombination of PQ and from the delayed fluorescence of the excited dimer (P*) in the reaction center of the photosynthetic bacterium , where the native ubiquinone at the primary quinone binding site Q was replaced by low-potential anthraquinone (AQ) derivatives. The following observations were made: (1) The free energy state of PI was pH independent below pH 10 (-370 ± 10 meV relative to that of the excited dimer P*) and showed a remarkable decrease (about 20 meV/pH unit) above pH 10. A part of the dielectric relaxation of the PI charge pair that is not insignificant (about 120 meV) should come from protonation-related changes.

Conductive polymer composites are commonly present in flexible electrodes for neural interfaces, implantable sensors, and aerospace applications. Fused filament fabrication (FFF) is a widely used additive manufacturing technology, where conductive filaments frequently contain carbon-based fillers. In this study, the static and dynamic mechanical properties and the electrical properties (resistance, signal transmission, resistance measurements during cyclic tensile, bending and temperature tests) were investigated for polylactic acid (PLA)-based, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS)-based, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU)-based, and polyamide (PA)-based conductive filaments with carbon-based additives.

Amputations take place in the operating rooms. At dangerous sites, circumstances may necessitate on-site amputation to save lives. Currently, there are no evidence-based guidelines for the execution of the amputation or the instruments to be chosen.

Objective: The purpose was to compare the effects of rapid (3 s) and conventional (20 s) polymerization protocols (PP) of mono- and multichip LED curing units (LCU) on shrinkage stress (SS) and monomer elution (ME) in bulk-fill resin-based composites (RBC) with and without addition-fragmentation chain-transfer (AFCT) monomer.

Methods: Cylindrical (5x4mm) specimens were prepared from two RBCs containing different AFCT monomers (Filtek OneBulk-FOB; Tetric PowerFill-TPF) and one without (Tetric EvoCeram Bulk-TEC). After soaking for 3, 10, and 14 days (75 % ethanol), ME was quantified using standard monomers by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography.

Simulators are widely used in medical education, but objective and automatic assessment is not feasible with low-fidelity simulators, which can be solved with artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality (VR) solutions. The effectiveness of a custom-made VR simulator and an AI-based evaluator of a laparoscopic peg transfer exercise was investigated. Sixty medical students were involved in a single-blinded randomised controlled study to compare the VR simulator with the traditional box trainer.
