Objective: The purpose of this discussion paper is to summarize the 2022 updates to the American Psychiatric Nurses Association's (APNA) Seclusion and Restraint Position Statement and Seclusion and Restraint Standards of Practice.
Method: Both documents were the work of the APNA 2022 Seclusion and Restraint Task Force that consisted of APNA nurses with expertise in the use of Seclusion and Restraint, who practice across a wide range of clinical settings.
Results: The 2022 Updates to the APNA Position Statement and Standards were guided by evidence-based information found in the review of seclusion and restraint literature and clinical expertise from the 2022 Seclusion and Restraint Task Force.
N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) have drawn considerable interest in the field of nanomaterials chemistry as highly stabilizing ligands enabling the formation of strong and covalent carbon-metal bonds. Applied to gold nanoparticles synthesis, the most common strategy consists of the reduction of a preformed NHC-Au complex with a large excess of a reducing agent that makes the particle size difficult to control. In this paper, we report the straightforward synthesis of NHC-coated gold nanoparticles (NHC-AuNPs) by treating a commercially available gold(I) precursor with an easy-to-synthesize NHC-BH reagent.

View Article and Find Full Text PDF8-Hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ) is a promising organic molecule for the corrosion protection of aluminum and its alloys in the replacement of chromate salts. On the aluminum surface, the presence of an oxide layer naturally formed can influence the inhibition efficiency which depends on molecule-surface interactions. In the present study, we performed quantum chemical calculations on native 8-HQ, tautomer and 8-Q (deprotonated, H-abstracted or radical) molecules, adsorbed on an oxidized aluminum surface (γ-AlO(111)/Al(111)).
