Introduction: Open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with plate and screws represents the recommended treatment for unstable intra-articular distal radius fractures. Although significant progresses in surgical technique have been made, anatomical reconstruction of radio-carpal articular surface still represent a difficult task, especially in multifragmentary fractures. Available PEEK reinforced-carbon fiber composite radiolucent devices allow both an easier and more careful assessment of intra-operative reduction of the articular surface of distal radius and prompt correction of any residual step deformity.

A lot of different implants are available in hip replacement arthroplasty (THA), stems differ mainly by type of fixation, material, length, diameter, shape, surface coating, modularity, etc. The main quality of a non-cemented stem is to pursuit primary and secondary stability, to preserve bone stock, to be adaptable and modular. The literature shows that the most popular non cemented stems used in THA are metaphyseal femoral stem in which the distal portion has only the action to avoid varus stem placement but can also be a source of complications such as stress shielding.

Using hybridoma technology we produced monoclonal antibodies (MoAb) to idiotypic determinants on human anti-cardiolipin antibodies purified from a patient with SLE. Hybridomas were screened by inhibition of cardiolipin binding activity of sera from patients with SLE. Seven hybridomas were selected, two of which were studied extensively.

Fifty-one sera from patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) were studied in order to evaluate the prevalence of anticardiolipin (ACA) and anti-mitochondrial antibodies (AMA) type M5, and also to explore their relationship with the main serological and clinical features of the disease. A group of 25 (49.0%) patients was found to be ACA positive (IgG or IgG and IgM); in this group we found a significantly higher prevalence of false positive VDRL (p less than 0.

Recent studies have raised questions concerning the specificity of anticardiolipin antibodies and their relationship to anti-DNA antibodies, the lupus anticoagulant, the biological false positive test for syphilis, and reagin, the antibody detected in syphilis. In an attempt to answer some of these questions, 3 IgG and 2 IgM affinity purified anticardiolipin antibodies, as well as 3 affinity purified anti-DNA antibodies were studied. Affinity purified anti-cardiolipin antibodies showed high binding to negatively charged phospholipids but not to ssDNA by solid phase radioimmunoassay.
