Background: We examined the added value of serologic testing for estimating influenza virus infection incidence based on illness surveillance with molecular testing versus periodic serologic testing.

Methods: Pregnant persons unvaccinated against influenza at <28 weeks gestation were enrolled before the 2017 and 2018 influenza seasons in Peru and Thailand. Blood specimens were collected at enrollment and ≤14 days postpartum for testing by hemagglutination inhibition assay for antibodies against influenza reference viruses.

Article Synopsis
  • Future climate projections start by selecting emissions scenarios, which are typically narrative-based but here utilize a large probabilistic approach with radiative forcing trajectories.
  • A combined database of greenhouse gas emissions scenarios and a climate model helps estimate median emissions for 2100 at 5.1 watts per square meter, with a small chance of exceeding 8.5 watts.
  • Despite the low probability of extreme scenarios like 8.5 watts, their analysis is important for understanding potential climate impacts by the 22nd century and evaluating rare but significant climate risks.

Background: Cesarean delivery rates have increased globally resulting in a public health concern. We estimate rates of cesarean deliveries among Thai women using the World Health Organization (WHO) Robson Classification system and compare rates by Robson group to the Robson guideline for acceptable rates to identify groups that might benefit most from interventions for rate reduction.

Methods: In 2017 and 2018, we established cohorts of pregnant women aged ≥ 18 years seeking prenatal care at two tertiary Thai hospitals and followed them until 6-8 weeks postpartum.

Background: Setting health-protective standards for poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) exposure requires estimates of their population toxicokinetics, but existing studies have reported widely varying PFAS half-lives (T) and volumes of distribution (V).

Objectives: We combined data from multiple studies to develop harmonized estimates of T and V, along with their interindividual variability, for four PFAS commonly found in drinking water: perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA), and perfluorohexane sulfonate (PFHxS).

Methods: We identified published data on PFAS concentrations in human serum with corresponding drinking water measurements, separated into training and testing data sets.

A new severe plastic deformation technique, known as the complex shearing of extruded tube (CSET), was applied to a 3003 based model aluminium alloy. This technique, consisting of a combination of extrusion and two consecutive Equal Chanel Angular Pressing (ECAP) passes accompanied with concurrent torsional straining, is capable to produce a fine-grained tubular sample directly from a bulk metallic cylinder in one forming operation. In the present paper, the microstructural development of the alloy during partial processes of CSET was studied in detail using light microscopy, electron backscatter diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy.
