Electrosurgery applies high frequency alternating electrical currents to generate heat, thereby creating tissue damage required for cutting, hemostasis, or destruction. Electrosurgery can be delivered in a variety of different ways and can be tailored to achieve the desired clinical effect. Having a command of the underlying principles of electrosurgery will help dermatologic surgeons use the appropriate form of electrosurgery to safely achieve the desired results.
