Endometriosis is a chronic systemic disease, which results in endometrial-type tissue growing outside the uterus, and affects approximately 10% of reproductive-aged women worldwide. Its aetiology is poorly understood, and there is currently no long-term cure. Development and persistence of the disease depend on several coexisting factors including the vaginal microbiome.

Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) and long COVID are debilitating multisystemic conditions sharing similarities in immune dysregulation and cellular signaling pathways contributing to the pathophysiology. In this study, immune exhaustion gene expression was investigated in participants with ME/CFS or long COVID concurrently. RNA was extracted from peripheral blood mononuclear cells isolated from participants with ME/CFS (n = 14), participants with long COVID (n = 15), and healthy controls (n = 18).

The joint space is a unique microenvironment that contains cartilage and synovial fluid. Chondrocytes and synoviocytes are crucial components of the joint space and are known targets of RRV infection.
