Management of patients following implantable cardioverter-defibrillator therapy-The importance of a multifaceted approach.

Background: The most effective way to treat patients following a first ICD therapy is unclear. We hypothesised that following first ICD therapy, combining different treatment strategies would be associated with a reduction in the risk of subsequent therapy compared to single strategies alone.

Methods: Data was collected from consecutive patients undergoing ICD implantation at King's College Hospital between January 2009 and December 2019.

Effect of concentration gradient on spiral wave dynamics in the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction system.

The oscillatory Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction is often used for the study of rotating spiral waves that are responsible for life-threatening cardiac arrhythmia. In this work, we explore the influence of a concentration gradient on the dynamics of spiral waves in the BZ-reaction system. Using ion-exchange resin beads, we introduce a gradient of hydrogen ions in a thin layer of BZ gel hosting a spiral wave.

Purpose: Breast cancer (BC) brain metastasis (BrM) remains a significant clinical problem. Mucins have been implicated in metastasis; however, if they are also involved in BCBrM remains unknown. We queried BrM patient databases and found Mucin 5AC (MUC5AC) to be upregulated and therefore sought to define the role of MUC5AC in BCBrM.
