Collaborative management partnerships (CMPs) between state wildlife authorities and nonprofit conservation organizations to manage protected areas (PAs) have been used increasingly across Sub-Saharan Africa since the 2000s. They aim to attract funding, build capacity, and increase the environmental effectiveness of PAs. Our study documents the rise of CMPs, examines their current extent, and measures their effectiveness in protecting habitats.

Anti-NMDA receptor (A-NMDAR) encephalitis is an autoimmune condition often associated with ovarian teratoma. Surgical removal of the teratoma is generally curative, and recurrence is uncommon. A 14-year-old female presented with psychiatric symptoms and was ultimately diagnosed with A-NMDAR encephalitis during a prolonged hospitalization.

Regular population monitoring of imperilled charismatic species such as large carnivores is critical for conservation. However, the role of monitoring in conservation is frequently diminished due to: 1) surveys being implemented in isolation, 2) limited on-ground-capacity leading to infrequent monitoring, and 3) inappropriate methods being applied. Wildlife monitoring is often resource-intensive and the utility and cost of different field protocols is rarely reported.

Swimming across rivers and water bodies filled with high densities of predators may be one such example. In African lions , previous water crossings (recorded in the peer-reviewed and gray literature, on film, and found using Google Search, and YouTube) have recorded distances ranging from <10 to 100 m, with some resulting in mortality by Nile Crocodiles .
