Purpose: Cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitors (CDK4/6i) combined with endocrine therapy have demonstrated significant clinical benefits in progression-free and overall survival. This study investigates the outcomes associated with two kinds of CDK4/6i in patients with hormone receptor (HR)-positive metastatic and relapsed breast cancer to inform real-world evidence of treatment strategies.

Methods: This retrospective study included 340 Taiwanese patients with HR-positive advanced breast cancer from the Taipei Veterans General Hospital, between 2018 and 2023.

Background:  One of the most devastating deficits of facial paralysis is eyelid dysfunction, which is controlled by the orbicularis oculi muscle (OOM), as it leads to loss of the protective mechanism of the eye. This study used a rat model to assess the functional outcomes of neurotized platysma muscle grafts (PMGs) for OOM replacement.

Methods:  Forty male Sprague-Dawley rats with iatrogenic right eyelid dysfunction were divided into five groups: one control group and four groups utilizing PMG with different sources of nerve innervation.

Background: Eculizumab and efgartigimod were approved to treat anti-acetylcholine receptor antibody-positive generalized myasthenia gravis (anti-AChR Ab-positive gMG). These relatively new biological treatments provide a more rapid onset of action and improved efficacy compared with conventional immunosuppressive treatments, but at a higher cost.

Objective: To assess the cost-effectiveness of eculizumab and, separately, efgartigimod, each added to conventional therapy vs conventional therapy alone, among patients with refractory anti-AChR Ab-positive gMG and those with anti-AChR Ab-positive gMG, respectively.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study analyzed 615 HER2-negative breast cancer samples to compare genomic mutations between tumors categorized as HER2-0 and HER2-low, finding notable differences in molecular profiles and clinicopathological features.
  • - Results revealed that HER2-low tumors had a higher percentage of estrogen/progesterone receptor-positive tumors and more low Ki-67 levels, but fewer early-stage cases compared to HER2-0 tumors.
  • - The study also identified a significantly higher frequency of certain genetic alterations in HER2-low compared to HER2-0 and luminal-like breast cancer versus triple-negative breast cancer, suggesting that early mutation detection could guide treatment decisions for HER2-low patients.

Background: Surgery is the recommended treatment for breast cancer, the most common cancer in women in Taiwan and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Although breast-conserving surgery (BCS) has good prognosis, in some cases, BCS may cause more significant deformities and interfere with the patient's psychosocial well-being. Oncoplastic breast surgery (OBS) is the treatment option in these cases.
