Subtelomeric monosomy 11q and trisomy 16q in siblings and an unrelated child: molecular characterization of two der(11)t(11;16).

We report here three children with a der(11)t(11;16), two sibs (patients 1 and 2) having inherited a recombinant chromosome from a maternal t(11;16)(q24.3;q23.2) and a third unrelated child with a de novo der(11)t(11;16)(q25;q22.

[A new case of glucose-galactose malabsorption].

The authors report a new case of glucose-galactose malabsorption. The particular features of this neonatal life-threatening refractory diarrhea are recalled. The dietetic management which permits a normal growth and psycho-intellectual development is described.

Shoshin beriberi: an unusual complication of prolonged parenteral nutrition.

After 4 weeks of total parenteral nutrition (TPN), a 12-yr-old girl exhibited an acute heart failure with high cardiac output, anuria, and severe lactic acidosis. The clinical, hemodynamic, and biological data suggested the diagnosis of shoshin beriberi which was proved by the low erythrocyte transketolase activity with elevated "TPP effect" and by the dramatic improvement of the patient after thiamin administration. Thiamin deficiency and severe neurological disorders have been described during long-term parenteral nutrition.

[A case of leprechaunism].

The authors report the case of an term infant weighing 2,860 kgs, who presented with failure to thrive during the two first months of life. Clinical features suggested the diagnosis of leprechaunism. After a review of the literature, the authors conclude that the diagnosis of this rare condition is essentially a clinical one, as there are no specific laboratory tests.
