Objective: The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommends the pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23) following the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) for pediatric patients aged 2 to 18 years with high-risk medical conditions. The PPSV23 is not a routine immunization for all pediatric patients and children who meet criteria for high-risk conditions may not consistently receive the PPSV23 vaccine, despite current recommendations. The goal of this study was to determine PPSV23 -vaccination rates in the high-risk pediatric patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

Objective: In the management of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), the standard of care is to administer insulin glargine after ketoacidosis has resolved and the patient is transitioning from intravenous (IV) insulin to subcutaneous insulin; however, there is evidence to suggest that earlier administration of insulin glargine may accelerate resolution of ketoacidosis. The objective of this research is to determine the efficacy of early subcutaneous insulin glargine on time to resolution of ketoacidosis in children with moderate to severe DKA.

Methods: This retrospective chart review evaluated children age 2 to 21 years old admitted for moderate to severe DKA who received insulin glargine within 6 hours of hospital admission (early insulin glargine) compared with those who received insulin glargine greater than 6 hours from admission (late insulin glargine).

Emerging evidence suggests the use of peri-procedural bridging during interruptions in warfarin therapy increases bleed risk without reducing thromboembolic events. We implemented a peri-procedural anticoagulant management risk assessment tool in a single, outpatient anticoagulation clinic within an academic teaching institution. In this retrospective, pre-post observational study, we evaluated adults who required an interruption in warfarin therapy for an invasive procedure.
