Predictors of Persistent COVID-19 Vaccine Refusal Among Previously Infected Patients in Nebraska.

To identify factors associated with persistent COVID-19 vaccine refusal among Nebraska residents 6 months after an initial COVID-19 diagnosis. Using case investigation surveillance data and vaccination records from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, a cohort of 16 344 unvaccinated, COVID-19‒confirmed individuals (May 2021‒February 2023) were asked for their reason for nonvaccination (RNV), then followed for 6 months to assess subsequent vaccination status. We used a modified Poisson regression to estimate risk of unvaccinated status at follow-up against predictors, including RNV, demographic characteristics, adherence to mitigation measures, hospitalization, and rurality.

National Preceptor Competency Consensus Study.

Objective: The aim of this study was to develop a consensus model of required preceptor competencies to inform preceptor selection, development, support, and assessment.

Background: The preceptor role is complex and multifaceted, requiring knowledge and skills beyond the typical RN role; however, no nationally developed standards for preceptor competencies exist.

Methods: A mixed-method approach (national survey of preceptors, electronic Delphi, expert panel) was used to develop consensus on required preceptor competencies.

Retail availability of over-the-counter birth control pills at Texas pharmacies: Results from a mystery caller study.

Objectives: To estimate the availability of the recently released over-the-counter (OTC) birth control pill (Opill) in retail pharmacies and compare availability across pharmacies based on their chain status and setting.

Study Design: In April and May 2024, we conducted a mystery caller study of a sample of 500 Texas retail pharmacies. Sampled pharmacies were contacted by female project staff posing as potential customers and asked whether they had OTC birth control pills in stock and, if not, whether they could be ordered.

Relationships Between Nursing Professional Development Department Structures in Hospital Systems and Patient Outcomes.

Although positive correlations between nursing professional development (NPD) staffing and organizational outcomes have been demonstrated, no evidence of optimal NPD department structures was found. Using an organizational participatory research method, NPD department structures in acute care hospital systems and their relationships to publicly reported patient outcomes and satisfaction were explored. Hospitals with centralized NPD departments had significantly fewer unplanned readmissions for pneumonia than hospitals with hybrid structures.

Biomarkers of Nicotine and Toxicant Exposure by E-Liquid Nicotine Concentration Level among US Adult Exclusive E-Cigarette Users.

Background: The current e-cigarette market has been rapidly evolving with an increase in the share of high nicotine concentration vaping products. This study examined urinary biomarkers of exposure (BOE) by nicotine concentration level among exclusive e-cigarette users.
