A brief general account is given of the effects of alpha-blocking drugs in exercise induced asthma (EIA) followed by data obtained using beta-adrenoceptor stimulants, Atropine, Disodium cromoglycate and 2 new non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, Ketotifen and Tiaramide. Reference is made to a bronchodilator action of these drugs and to DSCG when inhaled in solution.

A study was carried out in 25 patients with asthma caused by exposure to occupational antigens to investigate the effectiveness of reproterol in protecting and terminating the bronchoconstrictor response to inhaled antigens. The results of lung function tests showed that the immediate reactions to the provocation test could be reversed by reproterol given either at the time of the reaction or shortly before challenge.

1. Dose response relationships for salbutamol and a new bronchodilator drug NAB 365 have been obtained in patients with reversible airways obstruction. These show that the latter is about one hundred times more potent than the former.
