So far, it has been realized in multilayer graphene and other van der Waals (2D crystals with hexagonal or triangular crystalline symmetries, leading to isotropic frictionless contacts. Directional structural superlubricity, to date unrealized in 2D systems, is possible when the reciprocal lattices of the two crystals coincide in one direction only.

Damage to the platelets of mitochondria as a result of their interactions with reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) can lead to their numerous ischemic events associated with hypoxia or hyperoxia processes in the cell. Disturbances in redox reactions in the platelet mitochondrial membrane lead to the direct oxidation of cellular macromolecules, including nucleic acids (DNA base oxidation), membrane lipids (lipid peroxidation process) and cellular proteins (formation of reducing groups in repair proteins and amino acid peroxides).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIn this article, we present a computational study of the Conductance-Based Adaptive Exponential (CAdEx) integrate-and-fire neuronal model, focusing on its multiple timescale nature, and on how it shapes its main dynamical regimes. In particular, we show that the spiking and so-called delayed bursting regimes of the model are triggered by discontinuity-induced bifurcations that are directly related to the multiple-timescale aspect of the model, and are mediated by canard solutions. By means of a numerical bifurcation analysis of the model, using the software package COCO, we can precisely describe the mechanisms behind these dynamical scenarios.
