Article Synopsis
- Baculoviruses are effective in controlling insect populations, typically through ingestion, but spiracular infection methods were evaluated for virus production using different forms of Helicoverpa armigera nucleopolyhedrovirus.
- Spiracular treatments led to larval deaths, but the diet surface treatment method resulted in higher mortality and better virus yield, especially with intact polyhedral inclusion bodies (PIB).
- Despite comparable PIB yield per larva in spiracle methods, the overall low mortality and higher labor needed make it less practical than the standard diet treatment for large-scale virus production.
