Hemangioendothelioma is a rare, locally aggressive vascular tumor, originating from soft tissue, bone, skin, and organs such as liver or lung and exceptionally the oral cavity. It is usually benign but can show variable grades of malignancy. Most of the cases of oral epithelioid hemangioendotheliomas are asymptomatic, and diagnosis is hampered by the fact that the histological features somewhat overlap with hemangioma and angiosarcoma, with epithelioid cells, intracytoplasmic vacuoles, low mitotic activity, and rarely necrosis.

Evaluation of a set of 10 F hybrids along with their female (27A and 7A) and male parents (C 43, RS 673, RS 627, CB 26, and CB 29) for grain yield and its component traits revealed that grain yield/plant followed by panicle weight, primary branches/panicle, and 100-seed weight exhibited high levels of heterosis. Eight hybrids exhibited 50% or more mid-parent heterosis for grain yield/plant, of which, one hybrid (27A × RS673) recorded heterobeltiosis above 50% (73.61%).

The cultivar Ajaya (IET 8585) exhibits durable broad-spectrum resistance to bacterial blight (BB) disease of rice and is widely used as a resistance donor. The present study was carried out to decipher the genetics of BB resistance in Ajaya and map the gene(s) conferring resistance. Genetic analysis in the F2 indicated a quantitative/additive nature of resistance governed by two loci with equal effects.

The characteristic event that follows infection of a cell by retroviruses Including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/ simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) is the formation of a reverse transcription complex in which viral nucleic acids are synthesized. Nuclear transport of newly synthesized viral DNA requires phosphorylation of proteins in the reverse transcription complex by virion-associated cellular kinases. Recently, we demonstrated that disruption of cellular mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK)/extracellular signal-regulated kinase 2 (ERK-2) incorporation into SIV virions inhibits virus replication in nonproliferating target cells, indicating that MAPK/ERK-2 plays an important role in HIV /SIV replication.
