This study presents the synthesis of a Cd(II) based hydrophobic three dimensional crystalline network material (CNM), [Cd(L)(LH)(bpe)], {L = {4,4'-(hexafluroisopropylidine)bis(benzoate)} and 1,2-di(4-pyridyl) ethylene (bpe)}, 1(Cd), by employing the slow-diffusion method. The three-dimensional structure of 1(Cd) was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction and characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), FT-IR spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Subsequently, post-synthetic modification of 1(Cd) with Cu(II) at room temperature led to the formation of isostructural 1(Cu) with partial substitution.

In both cases, five coordinated V ions adopted distorted square pyramidal geometry through the coordination of two oxido ligands and one hydrazone ligand.

Single-crystal structure X-ray diffraction studies of the as-synthesized compound showed a two- dimensional structure with free hydroxyl groups. Upon excitation at 370 nm, the aqueous dispersion of [Cu(CHO)(CHN)]·HO·DMSO, , showed emission centered at 525 nm resulting from the intraligand energy transfer.

The presence of different pseudohalide linkers, thiocyanate ions, and dicyanamide ions resulted in 1D and 3D architecture in the CPs. Thin film devices developed from CPs - (complex-based Schottky devices, , , , and , respectively) showed semiconductor behavior.

A comprehensive investigation was carried out during the synthesis of the coordination polymers by varying the reaction time interval and temperature, and it revealed the formation of three distinct phases, of which two phases were previously reported and one was a new compound (. The structure of compound was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and it shows a corrugated layer structure with hydrogen bond interactions leading to three-dimensional supramolecular arrangements.
