Embryologists' health: a nationwide online questionnaire.

Purpose: The present study evaluates health status and its relation with occupational characteristics and with burnout syndrome among embryologists.

Methods: A cross-sectional design was used to conduct an online self-assessment survey, sent to all members of the Spanish Association of Clinical Embryologists. The questionnaire contained occupational questions and two standard instruments: 'Short Form-12 Health Survey' as a measure of physical (PCS-12) and mental (MCS-12) health and the Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey (MBI-GS) to evaluate the degree of burnout.

Prolactin levels in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus: a case controlled study.

Recent accumulated evidence suggests that prolactin (PRL) is an important immunomodulator and might have a role in the pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Our aim was to assess the frequency of hyperprolactinemia in women with SLE and to evaluate its correlation with disease activity. PRL plasma levels were measured in 36 women with SLE and 20 age-matched healthy controls.

Virilizing mature ovarian cystic teratomas.

Three further cases of mature benign cystic teratomas of the ovary associated with virilization are added to the three previously reported in the literature. They were found in postmenopausal, obese, diabetic women aged 52, 61, and 67 years. The patients presented with hirsutism and voice changes and clitoromegaly was present in one.

Serum CA-125 in the diagnosis of acute pelvic inflammatory disease.

Objectives: To determine the efficiency of different tumor markers (CA-125, carcinoembryonic antigen, CA-15.3, CA-19.9) and insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) measurements as a screening procedure for acute pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).

Follicular fluid alpha-fetoprotein, carcinoembryonic antigen, and CA-125 levels in relation to in vitro fertilization and gonadotropin and steroid hormone concentrations.

Objective: To investigate the possible role of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), and CA-125 in the ovarian follicle.

Design: alpha-Fetoprotein, CEA, and CA-125 were measured in human follicular fluid (FF) and correlated to IVF outcome and gonadotropin and gonadal steroid hormones.

Setting: The In Vitro Fertilization Program at Virgen de las Nieves Hospital, Granada, Spain.
