BDNF positively influences various aspects of neuronal migration, maturation, and survival in the developing brain. Reelin in turn mediates inhibitory signals to migrating neuroblasts, which is crucial for brain development. The interplay between BDNF and Reelin signaling in neurodevelopment is not fully understood.

We have previously identified the E3 ubiquitin ligase-inducible degrader of the low density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) (Idol) as a post-translational modulator of LDLR levels. Idol is a direct target for regulation by liver X receptors (LXRs), and its expression is responsive to cellular sterol status independent of the sterol-response element-binding proteins. Here we demonstrate that Idol also targets two closely related LDLR family members, VLDLR and ApoE receptor 2 (ApoER2), proteins implicated in both neuronal development and lipid metabolism.

This article discusses health education and communication in Occupational Health Services (OHS) based on a questionnaire study conducted in Finnish OHS in 2005. The study focused on educational activities carried out by OH professionals and directed at individual employees, work communities and groups, and representatives of client organisations. The questionnaire was sent to 1132 OH professionals--physicians, nurses, physiotherapists and psychologists--working in 130 OHS units, and representing different OHS providers in Finland.

Objective: To examine sociodemographic, work-related factors and psychological health as predictors of sustained organizational commitment among temporary hospital employees.

Background: The participants were 412 nurses who had a temporary job contract and reported being committed to their organization at baseline.

Mutations in the mitochondrial tRNA(leu) (UUR) gene have been associated with diabetes mellitus and deafness. We screened for the presence of mtDNA mutations in the tRNA(leu) (UUR) gene and adjacent ND1 sequences in 12 diabetes mellitus pedigrees with a possible maternal inheritance of the disease. One patient carried a G to A substitution at nt 3243 (tRNA(leu) (UUR) gene) in heteroplasmic state.
