Neutrophil lymphocyte ratio and heart type fatty acid binding protein as a prognostic marker in Myocardial infarction within 48 h of admission.

Background: The neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a measure of systemic inflammation, whereas Heart type fatty acid protein (HFABP) is a cytosolic protein released early after acute coronary syndrome (ACS). The aim of this research study is to determine whether NLR and H-FAB are useful in predicting the prognosis in patients with ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) 48 h after admission. This is a prospective observational study conducted on 97 patients who had been admitted to emergency room with ST-elevation myocardial infarction in their ECG in a tertiary care centre of south India.

High prevalence of "non-pathogenic" POLE mutation with poor prognosis in a cohort of endometrial cancer from South India.

Objective: The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) project identified favorable prognosis regarding the ultra-mutated endometrial cancer (EC) subtype linked to polymerase epsilon gene (POLE) mutations. This study investigated POLE mutations in EC of Indian patients.

Methods: This retrospective analytical study was conducted between January 2016 and January 2023 at the Government Medical College, Kozhikode, and the MVR Cancer Center, Kozhikode, Kerala.

Clinical, immunological and genomic characteristics of children with X-linked agammaglobulinemia from Kerala, South India.

X-linked agammaglobulinemia (XLA) is an X-linked recessive primary immunodeficiency disorder caused due to a pathogenic variant in the Bruton tyrosine (BTK) gene with an incidence of 1:379,000 live births and 1:190,000 male births. Patients affected with XLA present with recurrent infections of the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts. Here we report the first case series of 17 XLA patients of 10 South Indian families with a wide spectrum of clinical and genetic features.
