Research into the effects of intense grazing regimes on cattle behaviour and productivity will support the ethical intensification of pastoral dairy production. Two treatments were applied to two herds of 30 mid-lactation cows over 28 days. Cows were offered an estimated 12 kg DM/cow (above 5 cm from ground level) of irrigated pasture per day.

Feed nitrogen (N) intakes in Australian grazing systems average 545 g cow day, indicating that urinary N is likely to be the dominant form excreted. Grazing animals spend disproportionate amounts of time in places on dairy farms where N accumulation is likely to occur. We attached to grazing cows sensors that measure urine volume and N concentration, as well as global positioning systems sensors used to monitor the times the cows spent in different places on a farm and the location of urination events.

We describe the clinical history of a 49-year old woman, who demonstrated progressive personality changes more than twenty years after radiation of a pituitary adenoma (prolactinoma), with apathy, loss of initiative, memory deficits, postural instability, dysarthria and faecal incontinence. Neuropsychological assessment showed impulsivity, loss of overview, desinhibition, fluctuating deficits of attention, and memory disturbances. MRI-scanning of the brain revealed a cystic lesion along the right ventricle.
