[Comparative analysis: Effectiveness of nicotine addiction treatment in people with psychiatric comorbidity].

Objective: To determine whether or not nicotine addiction treatment was less effective in psychiatric than in the healthy population.

Material And Methods: A retrospective, descriptive and comparative cohort study was conducted in Albacete University Hospital during years 2008-2012 on all patients that attended the Tobacco Cessation Unit. The statistical tests used were Chi-squared, likelihood ratio, and the Student t test.

Development of Interpretable Predictive Models for BPH and Prostate Cancer.

Background: Traditional methods for deciding whether to recommend a patient for a prostate biopsy are based on cut-off levels of stand-alone markers such as prostate-specific antigen (PSA) or any of its derivatives. However, in the last decade we have seen the increasing use of predictive models that combine, in a non-linear manner, several predictives that are better able to predict prostate cancer (PC), but these fail to help the clinician to distinguish between PC and benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) patients. We construct two new models that are capable of predicting both PC and BPH.

Colorectal cancer screening through detection of fecal occult blood in a controlled health zone.

Aim: to determine the viability and utility of fecal occult blood (FOB) screening (Hemoccult II) as a method for the early diagnosis of colorectal cancer in a well-controlled health area.

Methods: between February 1994 and September 1996, personal letters were sent to all persons in the Casas Ibáñez health area (Albacete) aged between 50 and 75 years (4986 persons). All the tests were read by the same team member.
