Background: Since 2004, microneurovascular platysma transfer has been used for dynamic eye closure in long-standing facial palsy. The idea was initially presented by Lee and Terzis in 1984 but abandoned owing to its transfer difficulty. This muscle transfer allows forceful closure and blink restoration.

Alcoholism, malignant tumors of the upper airways, endocrine tumors, hypothyroidism, diabetes, and hypertriglyceridemia are often associated with its occurrence. Surgical removal via lipectomy or liposuction can give good cosmetic results, although recurrences often occur.

Although success is generally achieved, infection or fistula may occur. Prosthetic graft infection has been reported in between one and six percent in most large series and is one of the most dreaded complications of abdominal aorta surgery.

We describe two patients in whom chronic radiodermatitis with therapy-resistant ulceration of the right scapular region developed, following percutaneous coronary intervention with fluoroscopic imaging. Contrary to most reported cases in the literature, which involve numerous cardiac catheterization procedures, in both patients described here the total radiation dose was given during two successive procedures, involving difficult and prolonged coronary intervention with stent implantation. In both cases, local treatment of the ulcerative lesions was insufficient, necessitating excision of the radiodermatitis area and replacement with a skin graft, with good therapeutic result.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIn a previous study, the influence of the midfacial musculature upon growth and development of the maxilla and mandible was established macroscopically. Dry skull measurements revealed a reduced premaxillary, maxillary, mandibular, and anterior corpus length with a simultaneous increase in mandibular ramal height on the paralyzed side. It was demonstrated that these reduced premaxillary and maxillary lengths were among others the result of reduced nasofrontal growth, whereas the increased ramal height was accompanied by condylar growth alterations.
