In the process of batch cultivation in a synthetic medium B. anthracis cells actively consume free amino acids. The maximum amino acid consumption per unit of biomass occurs at the exponential phase of growth, but the consumption of serine is maintained at a high level also during the stationary phase.

A synthetic culture medium is proposed. This medium satisfies the nutritional requirements of most cultivated strains under study by a single amino acid: valine. The possibility of detecting strains with other nutritional requirements has been shown.
