Approximately 24,000 people are infected with cat scratch disease (CSD) every year. CSD is caused by the bacteria Bartonella henselae, a gram-negative bacteria most often transmitted to humans through a bite or scratch from an infected cat or kitten. Although CSD is often a benign and self-limiting condition, it can affect any major organ system in the body, manifesting in different ways and sometimes leading to lifelong sequelae.

Twelve patients operated for gastrointestinal carcinoid tumors are analyzed retrospectively. Clinically four of the cases (33%) were with signs of bowel obstruction, 4 (33%)--with signs of acute appendicitis, 3 (25%)--with signs of gastric outlet obstruction, and one (9%) with a picture of perforative peritonitis. Carcinoid syndrome was observed in two cases (17%).

Despite of the current achievements of medicine, the mortality of necrotizing pancreatitis (NP) is still too high--up to 35-40% and stands as a serious diagnostic and treatment problem. The results of treatment of 148 patients, admitted in the clinic with diagnosis NP, 95 males and 53 females, are discussed. The ratio between patients with acute oedematic and acute NP is 81.
