The Australia story: Current status and future challenges for the clinical applications of psychedelics.

The past decade has seen a huge increase in clinical research with psychedelic drugs and 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), which have revealed great potential for treating mental health conditions. Given this progress in research, as well as the current unmet clinical need of millions of patients, in 2023, the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved the use of psilocybin for treatment-resistant depression and MDMA for PTSD to take effect from 1 July 2023. The campaign for TGA approval was led by a coalition comprising the Australian charity Mind Medicine Australia with support from Professor David Nutt, Drug Science, Professor Arthur Christopolous, Professor Chris Langmead (both from Monash University) and from large numbers of clinical, academic and patient groups.

Cumulative HIV viral load and lower CD4 cell count are associated with incident venous thromboembolism in people with HIV.

Background: People with HIV (PWH) have benefited greatly from antiretroviral therapy, but face additional challenges from age-related comorbid conditions, particularly cardiovascular disease including venous thromboembolism (VTE). Little is known about the effect of HIV viremia and immunodeficiency on VTE risk in this population.

Methods: We assessed incident, centrally adjudicated VTE among 21,507 PWH in care between 1/2009-12/2019 within the Centers for AIDS Research Network of Integrated Clinical Systems (CNICS) cohort.

Application of the RIME framework in genetic counseling fieldwork training to assess practice-based competencies.

Using educational frameworks for learner assessment in genetic counseling (GC) training may help students and supervisors articulate developmentally appropriate clinical skills-based objectives and tasks that align with various stages of training as students work toward achieving entry-level competency. This professional issues case study describes how two GC programs adapted and implemented the RIME (Reporter-Interpreter-Manager-Educator) learner assessment framework, originally designed for medical education, to support and assess students' acquisition of practice-based competencies (PBCs) during clinical fieldwork placements. Each RIME level describes a different set of expectations regarding the skills students should be able to demonstrate based on the level of training they have achieved up to that point in time.

Clinical Characteristics and Treatment Outcomes in Unilateral Coats disease - a Global Collaborative Study.

Purpose: To evaluate the clinical outcomes and prognostic factors in unilateral Coats disease in the era of anti-VEGF therapy.

Design: Global, multicenter, retrospective case series.

Subjects: 656 eyes of 656 subjects with Coats disease were included in this study.
