Midline venous catheter: New insights for its use in hospitalized patients with diabetes.

In a prospective study we found that in hospitalized patients with diabetes the use of mid line venous catheter (MVC) resulted in a significantly lower rate of vascular complications than short cannulas. However, a special attention should be paid to catheter obstruction when MCV is used.

Background: Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) disproportionately impact populations with higher social vulnerability. Expedited Partner Therapy (EPT), which allows the treatment of partners without requiring a medical visit, reduces STI reinfection rates and expands treatment access for underserved groups. However, EPT remains underutilized, particularly in the electronic prescription era, which introduces logistical complexities.

Quantification of racial and ethnic disparities in alcohol-related problems in light of different methodological approaches.

Aim: We applied the Institute of Medicine (IOM) definition of racial and ethnic disparities in healthcare to estimate disparities in alcohol-related problems. This estimation involved adjusting for drinking patterns, gender and age, with observed disparities further explained by socioeconomic status (SES). We compared results of five statistical approaches which use different methods for adjusting covariates.

Bacterial genomes exhibit significant variation in gene content and sequence identity. Pangenome analyses explore this diversity by classifying genes into core and accessory clusters of orthologous groups (COGs). However, strict sequence identity cutoffs can misclassify divergent alleles as different genes, inflating accessory gene counts.
