Glucose sensing module - is it time to integrate it into real-time perioperative monitoring? An observational pilot study with subcutaneous sensors.

Aims: To explore the feasibility of subcutaneous continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in perioperative settings and to evaluate the perioperative development of glycaemia in persons with diabetes mellitus or impaired glucose tolerance by means of CGM.

Methods: Monitoring by means of Guardian REAL-Time CGMS (Medtronic, Nortridge, USA) in 20 perioperative periods. Sensor was inserted on the day before surgery and continued for 3 days with some exceptions.

[Rates of complications after laparoscopic cholecystectomy depending on the coagulation technique--a comparative study].

Introduction: This study analyzes the impact of coagulation instrument devices used during gallbladder removal. Standard electrocautery is compared to the use of harmonic scapel. To determine whether the different principles of these instruments are the key to the frequency and severity of complications during laparoscopy.

[Torsion of the omentum--an uncommon cause of acute abdomen].

Ometal torsion is a very rare cause of acute abdomen. Its symptoms can mimics acute appendicitis very often. Diagnose can be made only during laparoscopy, or laparotomy, respectively.

[Foreign bodies--uncommon causes of GIT injuries].

Injuries to various parts of the digestive tract caused by foreign bodies, frequently deliberately swallowed or inserted using various practics, are less common, however serious injuries. The symptomatology may be vague, credibility is often limited or anamnestic data may be intentionaly missing, which makes the diagnostic process tricky. Undefined, vague signs are related to specificities during the GIT perforation, so called hidden perforation.
