Due to the biodegradable and biocompatible nature of chitin and chitosan, they are extensively used in the synthesis of hydrogels for various applications. In this work, deacetylation of chitin is carried out with alkaline poly(dimethyldiallylammonium-hydroxide) that gave a higher amount of water-soluble chitin (with 84 % of the degree of deacetylation = chitosan) compared to deacetylation using NaOH. The water-soluble chitosan is used as intercalating chains for the preparation of acrylic acid and vinylimidazole-based hydrogels.

The global COVID-19 pandemic has led to an increase in the importance of implementing effective measures to prevent the spread of microorganisms. Consequently, there is a growing demand for antimicrobial materials, specifically antimicrobial textiles and face masks, because of the surge in diseases caused by bacteria and viruses like SARS-CoV-2. Face masks that possess built-in antibacterial properties can rapidly deactivate microorganisms, enabling reuse and reducing the incidence of illnesses.

Background: Odontogenesis is a highly coordinated and complex process which depends on cell-cell interactions that result in initiation and generation of tooth. Tissue remnants of developing tooth can form odontogenic tumors possibly, reflecting different developmental stages in tooth formation. In both odontogenesis and odontogenic tumors, stroma plays a prominent role in maintaining epithelial tissues with continuous molecular interactions.
