In addition to being a drainage system, the lacrimal ducts actively defend the eye through the action of the lacrimal pump, the presence of resident flora (lacriome) and the mucosa-associated immune tissue. Infection occurs when mucosal immune functions are overwhelmed. Lacrimal infection is a vicious circle, in which infection leads to inflammation and post-inflammatory sequelae, themselves a source of occlusion and stagnation, which in turn encourages infection.

Systematic revascularization of asymptomatic coronary artery stenosis before transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is controversial. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and safety of functional evaluation of coronary artery disease (CAD) followed by selective ischemia-guided percutaneous coronary revascularization following TAVR. This prospective, bi-centric, single-arm, open-label trial included all patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) eligible for TAVR and with significant CAD defined as ≥1 coronary stenosis ≥ 70%.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the link between elevated levels of PFAS (per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances) in the Inuit population of Nunavik and respiratory health issues, notably asthma.
  • It analyzes data from up to 1,298 participants, using advanced statistical methods to assess the impacts of specific PFAS compounds on respiratory symptoms and lung function.
  • The results reveal significant associations between certain PFAS, particularly PFNA and PFOS, and asthma, with findings indicating that nutritional factors might intensify these associations, underscoring the need for global PFAS regulation.
