Early rhythmicity in the fetal suprachiasmatic nuclei in response to maternal signals detected by omics approach.

The suprachiasmatic nuclei (SCN) of the hypothalamus harbor the central clock of the circadian system, which gradually matures during the perinatal period. In this study, time-resolved transcriptomic and proteomic approaches were used to describe fetal SCN tissue-level rhythms before rhythms in clock gene expression develop. Pregnant rats were maintained in constant darkness and had intact SCN, or their SCN were lesioned and behavioral rhythm was imposed by temporal restriction of food availability.

Beneficial Effects of Adjusted Perfusion and Defibrillation Strategies on Rhythm Control within Controlled Automated Reperfusion of the Whole Body (CARL) for Refractory Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest.

Survival and neurological outcomes after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) remain low. The further development of prehospital extracorporeal resuscitation (ECPR) towards Controlled Automated Reperfusion of the Whole Body (CARL) has the potential to improve survival and outcome in these patients. In CARL therapy, pulsatile, high blood-flow reperfusion is performed combined with several modified reperfusion parameters and adjusted defibrillation strategies.

Ciprofloxacin-Resistant Lung Abscess Complicating COVID-19 Treated with the Novel Oral Fluoroquinolone Delafloxacin.

Purpose: We report the development of a lung abscess caused by a ciprofloxacin-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa in a patient with COVID-19 on long-term corticosteroid therapy. Successful antimicrobial treatment included the novel oral fluoroquinolone delafloxacin suggesting an oral administration option for ciprofloxacin-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa lung abscess. An 86-year-old male was admitted to the hospital with fever, dry cough, and fatigue.

When are fossil fuels displaced? An exploratory inquiry into the role of nuclear electricity production in the displacement of fossil fuels.

We explore how renewable electricity production influences nuclear energy and fossil fuel use in the electricity sector for 109 nations from 1960-2015 and how such patterns change over time. We find that although a one-unit increase in the number of kWh produced from renewable sources does not appear to displace an equivalent number of kWh from fossil fuels, such an increase is associated with an equivalent reduction in the number of kWh drawn from nuclear sources between 1960 and 2015. However, further analyses indicate that there has been a trend toward displacement of fossil fuel sources by renewables, as well as an attenuation of the displacement of nuclear sources by renewables, since the late 1990s in nations with the capacity for nuclear electricity production.

Building coalitions: A statewide nursing organization's role in changing nursing education regulation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The California Association of Colleges of Nursing (CACN), representing California's baccalaureate and higher degree nursing education programs, has raised concerns for over two-years about the number, relevance, and legitimacy of nursing education regulations. Formal CACN letters to state regulators did not affect change. While California nursing education regulations require 75% direct patient contact for all clinical courses, meeting this requirement became impossible as clinical agencies closed to nursing students during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
