Treating those with mental illness frequently requires collaboration among health care providers from different disciplines as well as easy access to care. Neither interprofessional collaboration (IPC) nor accessible care can be assumed to automatically occur or be available in the busy health care environment. Early and deliberate exposure of graduate students in health care disciplines to interprofessional educational activities is imperative to strengthen IPC.

Objective: Pregnant patients receiving hemodialysis (HD) have long hospital stays for the purpose of electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) during HD, which allows for monitoring of fetal well-being. However, more frequent dialysis allows for smaller fluid shifts, preventing maternal hypotension. Our aim was to determine differences in rates of EFM abnormalities during HD versus non-stress testing (NST) off dialysis for gravid women with renal failure.

Beta-carotene 15,15'-monooxygenase (BCM) catalyzes the first step of vitamin A biosynthesis from provitamin A carotenoids. We wished to determine the factors underlying the transcriptional regulation of this gene. After cloning of the 40 kilobase pair (kbp) mouse Bcm gene and determination of its genomic organization, analysis of the 2 kb 5'-flanking region showed several putative transcription factor binding sites including TATA box, a peroxisome proliferator response element (PPRE), AP2, and bHLH.

We tested the hypothesis that productivity of intensively managed loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) and sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua L.) stands is dependent not only on leaf area, but also on foliar photosynthetic rate.

Peritoneovenous shunting with the LeVeen valve is generally recognized as an effective procedure for the treatment of intractable ascites and renal failure associated with severe liver disease. We recently observed a generalized hemorrhagic diathesis in patients receiving these valves. To investigate the mechanism of this hemorrhagic complication, we prospectively performed kinetic studies with 51Cr-labelled platelets and 125I-labelled fibrinogen in ten patients.
