The electrochemical properties of chars have been recently described, positioning chars as active participants in microbial redox processes through functional groups, aromatic structures, redox-active metals, and radicals. While bench-scale studies have advanced mechanistic understanding of char's behavior and potential effects, translating these findings to complex ecosystems remains challenging. This is mainly due to the complexities of microbial communities and the unique properties of various ecosystems.

Purpose: This work determined the dose calculation correction factors for absorbed dose in thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs) in a therapeutic carbon ion beam. TLD could be a useful tool for remote audits, particularly in the context of clinical trials as new protocols are developed for carbon ion radiotherapy.
Objectives: Inflammatory biomarkers such as C-reactive protein (CRP) lack discriminatory capacity to detect active disease in psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Our aim was to find CRP thresholds capable of discriminating active disease in both early and established PsA.
Methods: We included a total of 345 PsA patients (215 early-onset not exposed to high-impact therapies and 130 with established disease under biologics and oral targeted therapies).
While the use of phages in the food and biomedical sectors occurs commercially, their application in the water sector is less common and is typically demonstrated at a lower technological readiness level. This is so despite the potential that phages have to enhance the control of problematic bacteria (including pathogens) and protect infrastructure within the water sector. Fulfilling the great potential of this nascent field requires more research and development.
